Junk is a different animal than construction debris. It’s bulky — a couch, a mattress, a dead refrigerator, boxes of stuff that’s been sitting in a garage or spare room through more than one Chandler summer — but it’s usually far lighter per cubic foot than concrete, roofing shingles, or drywall. That means junk removal jobs are almost always sized around how much space the stuff takes up, not how much it weighs. CHR Dumpster Rental Chandler delivers containers across Chandler and the East Valley built for exactly that kind of load, whether it’s a single piece of furniture, a garage full of accumulated clutter, or an office clearing out old desks and filing cabinets.
Most of our junk removal customers load the container themselves — a driveway dumpster on your own schedule is the cheaper way to go, and plenty of people would rather do the hauling than the heavy lifting of arranging a full-service crew. If loading it yourself isn’t realistic — a bad back, a tight timeline, a job that’s genuinely more than one household can move — tell us that when you call and we’ll talk through what help looks like. Either way, we’d rather ask what you’re actually clearing out than default to the biggest box on the lot.

What Counts as Junk
Old furniture, mattresses, box springs, worn-out appliances, electronics, boxes of household clutter, old office furniture and equipment, and general items you’re just ready to be rid of all fall under junk removal. It’s the stuff that accumulates in a garage, attic, spare room, or storage unit over years without anyone meaning for it to pile up that high — common in both the older homes near Chandler’s original 1912 townsite and the newer subdivisions further out toward Sun Lakes and Queen Creek. Junk removal is different from yard debris too; if you’re clearing desert landscaping, palm fronds, or monsoon-storm brush instead, our yard waste service is the better fit.
Load It Yourself, or Let Us Take the Heavy End
A dumpster you load yourself is the most affordable way to clear out junk, and it’s what most of our customers choose — you set the pace, you decide what goes, and you’re not paying for labor you don’t need. But not every job is a fair fight for one person or one family. A dead washer, a heavy sectional, or a garage that’s genuinely overflowing can call for more muscle than a self-load setup makes sense for. When that’s the case, say so when you book and we’ll talk through what help with the heavy items looks like, rather than leaving you to figure out how to move a refrigerator alone in July.
Junk Removal vs. a Full Renovation Dumpster
Junk removal and a renovation dumpster solve different problems, even though both use a roll-off container. Junk removal is about clearing out belongings and clutter — furniture, appliances, boxes — without any construction debris mixed in. A remodel or renovation generates drywall, flooring, cabinetry, and other building material that comes with its own weight and disposal considerations, covered on our construction dumpster rental page. If your project is mostly clearing furniture and clutter out of a room before work starts, that’s junk removal. If it’s the demolition and rebuilding itself, that’s a construction container. Not sure which applies? Just describe the job when you call and we’ll point you the right direction.
Sizing for Junk: Volume, Not Weight
Because junk is bulky rather than dense, sizing comes down almost entirely to how much space it takes up. A single large item or a small closet’s worth of clutter often fits in a 10 yard container. A garage purge or a few rooms’ worth of furniture and boxes usually calls for a 15 yard. A full house or office clear-out with furniture, appliances, and accumulated clutter all coming out together tends to fill a 20 yard comfortably. This is the opposite calculation from a concrete or heavy-debris job, where weight caps out the container well before volume does — see our concrete & heavy debris page for that side of things. With junk, you can generally fill the box to the top without approaching a weight limit. Our size guide covers more detail, or call us at (480) 576-5580 and describe what you’re clearing.
Appliances & Electronics Handling
Major appliances — refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves — can generally go in the container, though refrigerators and freezers with refrigerant need to be flagged ahead of time since they sometimes require separate handling. Electronics are a bit different: Arizona doesn’t have a statewide law barring TVs, monitors, or computers from landfills, but we still recommend keeping them separate and using Maricopa County’s recycling resources instead. Lead-acid batteries are barred from landfill disposal under Arizona law (A.R.S. § 44-1322), and whole tires route through the state’s Waste Tire Fee program rather than a regular load, so both need to be set aside. If you’re unsure whether something belongs in the container, our what can go in a dumpster guide covers the full list, or just ask when you call.

FAQs
Junk Removal questions, answered
What’s the difference between junk removal and a regular dumpster rental?
They use the same container, but junk removal is sized and priced around bulky, lighter items like furniture and appliances rather than dense construction material. If your project is mostly clearing belongings and clutter rather than renovation debris, junk removal is the right fit.
Do I have to load the dumpster myself?
Most customers do, since it’s the more affordable route and lets you work at your own pace. If a job has genuinely heavy items or more volume than you can move on your own, tell us when you book and we’ll talk through what help with the heavy end looks like.
Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?
Generally yes, though refrigerators and freezers with refrigerant should be flagged ahead of time since they sometimes need separate handling. Let us know what appliances you’re clearing when you book.
What size dumpster do I need for a garage clean-out?
Most garage purges fit comfortably in a 15 yard container. A smaller closet or single-item job can often use a 10 yard instead. Tell us roughly what you’re clearing and we’ll recommend a size.
Can electronics go in the junk removal dumpster?
Arizona doesn’t have a statewide law barring electronics from landfills, but we still recommend keeping them separate and using Maricopa County’s recycling resources instead.
Do I need a permit for a junk removal dumpster in my driveway?
No. Placement entirely on private property — your driveway, yard, or gravel pad — is unregulated everywhere we serve.
How long can I keep the dumpster to finish clearing junk out?
We work with your schedule rather than a rigid rental window. Tell us roughly how long the job will take when you book and we’ll set expectations up front.
