A roll-off dumpster is the open-top steel container you’ve seen sitting on driveways and jobsites around the Valley — delivered on a truck, rolled off at the spot you choose, and picked back up once you’re done filling it. CHR Dumpster Rental Chandler runs roll-off containers in five sizes across Chandler and the East Valley, from small cleanouts to major demolition jobs, out of our yard at 106 S 54th St in far-west Chandler, near the I-10/Ahwatukee corridor.
The idea is simple: instead of loading a truck bed over and over for repeat runs to the transfer station, everything goes into one container that sits on-site for the length of your project, then gets hauled away in a single trip. We quote a flat rate up front based on size and project type, so there’s no guessing what a rental will run before you book.

What Is a Roll-Off Dumpster
A roll-off dumpster is an open-top rectangular container, typically 10 to 40 cubic yards, hauled on a specialized truck that tilts and “rolls” the container off its bed onto the ground — hence the name. It sits wherever you have it placed, gets loaded at your own pace over the course of your rental period, and is picked up the same way it arrived once you call for a swap or final pickup. It’s the standard container for home cleanouts, remodels, roofing tear-offs, and construction and demolition debris, and it’s a different tool than a front-load commercial dumpster, which stays on a fixed schedule of regular pickups for ongoing trash service — see our commercial dumpster rental page if that’s what you actually need.
Sizing Your Roll-Off
Picking the right size comes down to how much material the project will generate, not how big the container looks sitting on the truck. A single room, a garage purge, or a small roofing job usually fits the 10 yard or 15 yard. A whole-house cleanout, a multi-room remodel, or a full roof tear-off tends to land on the 20 yard, our most requested size. Whole-house renovations and larger estate cleanouts usually call for the 30 yard, and major demolition or large commercial cleanouts generating a high volume of debris are best matched to the 40 yard, our largest container. If you’re not sure which one fits, our size guide walks through it, or just call (480) 576-5580 and tell us what the project involves — we’d rather size you correctly than sell you a bigger box than you need.
Placement & Permits
Placement entirely on private property — a driveway, yard, gravel pad, or jobsite lot — is unregulated everywhere we serve. No permit is required, and that covers the large majority of the deliveries we make. Permitting only enters the picture when there’s no room on the lot and the container has to sit in a public street. Inside the City of Chandler, that’s governed by the city’s Encroachment Permit process (City Code Part VII, Section 46.2), run through the Transportation and Development Department’s Civil Engineering Plan Review Section. No flat dumpster-specific fee is published anywhere on the City’s site, so we tell customers plainly to call the City directly and confirm the current requirements and cost before booking a street placement. Addresses on unincorporated Maricopa County land go through a different authority — the Maricopa County Department of Transportation, under Ordinance P-36 — and homes inside Ahwatukee, South Mountain Village, or Laveen Village fall under the City of Phoenix’s own Street Transportation permit office, since those are named villages inside Phoenix rather than separate incorporated towns. Jobsites out toward Santan or San Tan Valley in Pinal County run through Pinal County Public Works instead. See our Chandler dumpster permit guide for the full breakdown by area.
What Goes In, What Doesn’t
General household debris, old furniture, flooring, drywall, cabinetry, roofing shingles, and construction and demolition material are all fair game in a roll-off. Arizona law (A.R.S. § 44-1322) prohibits landfill disposal of lead-acid batteries, so those need to be kept out and taken to a battery retailer or recycling drop-off instead. Whole tires are routed separately through Arizona’s own Waste Tire Fee program rather than a standard load. Arizona doesn’t have a statewide landfill ban on electronics, but we still recommend keeping TVs, monitors, and computers out of the box and using Maricopa County’s recycling resources instead — it’s the better outcome even where it isn’t legally required. Asbestos never goes in any container, in any size, full stop — that requires a licensed abatement contractor, and it comes up more than you’d expect in some of Chandler’s older homes near the original 1912 townsite. If you’re not sure whether something belongs, see our guide on what can go in a dumpster in Arizona, or just call (480) 576-5580 and ask.
How Booking Works
Call (480) 576-5580 and tell us what the project is — a cleanout, a remodel, a roofing tear-off, new construction, or demolition — and roughly how much debris you expect. We’ll recommend a size, quote a flat rate up front, and schedule a delivery window that works with your timeline within our Monday–Saturday, 7am–7pm hours. Same-day delivery is often possible if you call early enough and a truck is free on your route — see our same-day dumpster rental page for more.

FAQs
Roll-Off Dumpster Rental questions, answered
What’s the difference between a roll-off dumpster and a regular dumpster?
A roll-off is a container delivered to your site for the length of a project and picked up when you’re done — the kind used for cleanouts, remodels, and construction debris. A front-load commercial dumpster is a smaller container kept on a fixed schedule of recurring pickups for ongoing trash service. If you need regular waste service instead of a one-time project container, see our commercial dumpster rental page.
What size roll-off dumpster do I need?
It depends on the project. A single room or small job usually fits a 10 or 15 yard; a whole-house cleanout or multi-room remodel typically needs a 20 yard; whole-house renovations and estate cleanouts often call for a 30 yard; and major demolition or large commercial cleanouts are best matched to a 40 yard. Call (480) 576-5580 and we’ll help you size it correctly.
Do I need a permit for a roll-off dumpster in Chandler?
Not if it sits entirely on private property, which covers most rentals. A permit only comes into play if the container needs to sit in a public street — inside the City of Chandler that’s governed by the city’s Encroachment Permit process, and on unincorporated Maricopa County land it runs through the county’s Department of Transportation instead. See our permit guide for details.
How much does a roll-off dumpster rental cost?
We quote a flat rate up front based on the size and type of project, so you know the cost before you book. Call (480) 576-5580 for a quote — see our cost guide for what factors into the price.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
We work with your project timeline rather than forcing a fixed rental window. Tell us roughly how long the job will run when you book and we’ll set expectations up front.
What can’t go in a roll-off dumpster?
Paint, solvents, propane tanks, and asbestos-containing material are prohibited in any size. Lead-acid batteries are barred from landfill disposal under Arizona law, and whole tires need to be routed through the state’s Waste Tire Fee program rather than going in mixed with regular debris. See our guide on what can go in a dumpster in Arizona for the full list.
Do you deliver the same day I call?
Often, yes, if you call early enough in the day and a truck is free on your route. Otherwise we’ll get you scheduled for the next available slot within our Monday–Saturday, 7am–7pm hours.
