Placement on Your Property

A container that sits entirely on your own property — driveway, side yard, gravel pad — needs no permit anywhere we serve, and that covers most of the residential drop-offs we do. It’s only when there’s no room on the lot and the box has to sit in the street that permitting enters the picture. Inside the City of Chandler, street placement falls under the city’s Encroachment Permit process, handled by the Transportation and Development Department’s Civil Engineering Plan Review Section (City Code Part VII, Section 46.2). No flat dumpster-specific fee is published for that process, so we always tell customers to call the City directly and confirm current requirements before booking a street placement. Addresses in unincorporated Maricopa County fall under a different authority entirely — the Maricopa County Department of Transportation, under Ordinance P-36 — and homes inside Ahwatukee, South Mountain Village, or Laveen Village go through the City of Phoenix’s own Street Transportation permit office, since those are named villages inside Phoenix rather than separate towns. What Goes In, What Doesn’t

General household debris, old furniture, flooring, drywall, cabinetry, and yard trimmings are all fair game in a residential roll-off. Arizona law (A.R.S. § 44-1322) prohibits landfill disposal of lead-acid batteries, so those need to be kept out and taken to a battery retailer or recycling drop-off instead. Whole tires run through Arizona’s own Waste Tire Fee program rather than going in with general debris, so we route those separately as a matter of course. Arizona doesn’t have a statewide landfill ban on electronics, but we still recommend keeping TVs, monitors, and computers out of the box and using Maricopa County’s recycling resources instead — it’s the better outcome even where it isn’t legally required. Asbestos never goes in any container, full stop — that requires a licensed abatement contractor, and it comes up more than you’d expect in some of Chandler’s older homes near the original townsite.
